Prisoner aid and rehabilitation society Otago volunteer
Rosemary Elder buys books by the arm-load at the fifth annual
Rotary and Inner Wheel book sale, being held this week in the
Balclutha Memorial Hall.
Her purchases are for the Milburn prison library.
Proceeds from the book sale, which runs from March 8 to 13,
will help buy chemotherapy chairs for the Clutha district.
Inner Wheel spokeswoman Pam Henderson said the chairs adapted
to a person's needs.
"The chairs are electric and cost $8000 each," she said.
They offer adjustable seats, backs and arm-rests.
Mrs Henderson said there was already one chair at Clutha
Health First.
"The idea is to set up another couple."
The books have been donated from around the Clutha district,
and are on sale for 50c for children's books and $2, $3 and
$8 for adult's books.
Rotary member Don War estimates about 700 banana boxes each
contain an average of 40 books, which works out to roughly
28,000 titles from which to choose.
