A Clutha school which prides itself on its environmental
efforts will sell plants, vegetables and other homegrown
items at its annual plant fair tomorrow.
Waihola District School stages the event as an annual
fundraiser and as a chance to show the community how much it
values the environment.
It holds a silver award in the nationwide Enviroschools
project.
School board of trustees member Sheridan Massey said both the
community and school raised plants from seed over the year
with an emphasis on edible and native plants.
"The school has its own gardens and each student has their
own section within that in which to raise plants," she said.
On sale tomorrow will be plants, perennials, annuals,
vegetables and herbs as well as miscellaneous garden products
and even some home baking.
The plant fair will be held at the Waihola Community Hall
from 10am to 3pm.
