Kiwi cheerleaders win back-to-back world titles

A New Zealand cheerleading squad have won back to back world titles, securing gold in the United States over the weekend.

The Team New Zealand All Girls team cheered their way to victory at the World Cheerleading Championships in Florida, which saw more than 30,000 cheerleaders from 70 different countries converge on the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando.

The team were competing in the all-girl elite division.

The Team New Zealand Co-ed squad -- also part of the All Star Cheerleaders company -- could not defend their 2014 title, however, and placed fourth in the co-ed elite division.

All Star Cheerleaders owner Kimberley Ramsay said it was an incredible achievement to win two years in a row.

"I couldn't be more proud of what both of the teams have achieved. For the girls, it's simply incredible to be back to back World Champions -- they are still buzzing!"

The two-day tournament was run by the International Cheer Union -- the recognised world governing body of cheerleading.
