Police are appealing for help as they investigate poaching at
Galloway Station, near Alexandra.
Detective Sergeant Liz Williams said she had received some
information but would like to talk to the informant again.
Police raised concerns about poachers and hunters recently,
saying lives were being put at risk by the recklessness of
some.
In recent weeks, a landowner who was irrigating at night had
to take cover in a ditch after a person shooting rabbits from
the roadside fired into the paddock he was working in. In
another incident, an employed night shooter was spotlighted
by a poacher. A Waikerikeri Valley couple also expressed
concern after shots were fired near the family home.
Det Sgt Williams said such incidents were a problem but were
being reported increasingly often, which was a good thing.
