Alexandra's annual horticulture festival turned the Masonic
Lodge hall into a blaze of colour on Saturday.
The festival was held a week later than usual and that meant
the roses were well in bloom although the number of irises
was down on last year.
The peonies were well in flower.
There had been plenty of rain in the growing season, but
there had also been hail and wind, Alexandra Horticulture
Society president Jeanie Johnson said.
Avid gardeners had several rose and cut-flower sections to
enter.
Youngsters were catered for as well, with sections for
decorated gumboots and pine cones, and they could even draw a
computer image on an A4 page.
Cadburys donated prizes for the best chocolate sponge roll
but there were just two entries in that category.
"Maybe they found it too hard to make a sponge roll?" Mrs
Johnson said.
The festival was held in conjunction with the Alexandra Thyme
Festival, which began on Saturday.
