Club manager John Stephens said the sale, which will be held on August 29, had been modelled on the successful Wakatipu Ski Club sale, which attracts thousands of snow sports enthusiasts every year.
"I just came up with the idea from Shani Arona, who represents Otago. She's a member here and she's going up to the North Island to play some tournaments there.
"I thought we could have a golf sale, she could run it and . . . some of the proceeds can go to her."
Mr Stephens said the Arrowtown Golf Club would be opened up from August 24 for anyone to drop off golfing items they wanted to sell.
The golf club would take a 15% commission from sales for the juniors, who number 75 in Arrowtown.
"The week before anyone can bring anything they want to do with golf. A lot of people are just donating stuff . . . and we'll sell it for them."
Mr Stephens said there was likely to be quite a few clubs for sale, ranging from full sets to drivers and wedges.
Others had already promised to bring in their golf shoes, which they no longer required.
"It's a good chance for them to empty out their garage and have a good tidy up.
"It's also to mark the start of the golf season . . . We play year-round but there are a lot of fair weather golfers."
A giant golf raffle will be held in conjunction with the sale.
Mr Stephens said there was a limit of 600 tickets at $2 each and 220 tickets remained.
The first prize is a full year's playing membership for the Arrowtown Golf Club, with second prize a round of golf with The Hills professional Craig Palmer, at The Hills. Third prize is a round for two at Jacks Point with a golf cart, fourth prize a round for two at Millbrook with a cart, and fifth prize was four dozen golf balls.
Winners will be published in the Otago Daily Times on August 31.
The club hoped the golf sale would become an annual event, Mr Stephens said.
