The Lakes District Museum in Arrowtown will be the first venue in the South Island to host the internationally-acclaimed travelling exhibition about Holocaust victim Anne Frank.

"Anne Frank: A History For Today" will run in Arrowtown from July 1 to September 14, 2011.

The exhibition will be launched at Te Papa, in Wellington, next February.

The show uses materials from the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam.

The exhibition, which has been toured through 150 countries, is accompanied by an education programme sdeveloped to match the New Zealand school curriculum.

Museum education officer Angela Verry said the museum was appealing to Southern Lakes businesses and community trusts to sponsor the exhibition.

"It's an inspirational story that fascinates everyone.

"Every schoolchild has at some stage read the book and I think it will be an exhibition that draws people."

Exhibition project manager Patricia Deen, of Wellington, told the Otago Daily Times the Lakes District Museum was the first to express its interest in the Anne Frank exhibition.
