Balclutha police have condemned the actions of those who put road cones on the arches of the Balclutha bridge.

The cones appeared on Monday. They were gone by yesterday.

Senior Constable Tom Taylor, of Balclutha, said about 15 road cones were removed from a site in Balclutha and not all had been recovered.

The cones cost about $35 each. Some had been put on the arches of the bridge.

Mr Taylor said there was a risk of serious injury if the road cones had fallen from the bridge.

‘‘If a cone fell on to the windscreen of a car ... it again could have resulted in serious injury particularly if the driver of the car lost control.

''There was also a risk if the cones had fallen on a pedestrian.‘‘Maybe the bozos that thought putting the cones on the bridge was funny, might want to think again.''
