More than 30 letterboxes in Clyde were smashed with wooden
mallets on Wednesday night.
Rural constable Fred Aplin, of Omakau, said Alexandra police
had received that number of complaints and expected more.
The affected streets were Sunderland, Shields, Hazlett and
Whitby Sts.
"It was mayhem. Just wanton, deliberate damage."
The letterboxes were damaged between 11pm on Wednesday and
1am on Thursday, Const Aplin said.
"We're keen to hear from people who saw anybody behaving
unusually at that time."
Police found two wooden mallets, similar to those used to
play croquet, nearby.
