this Halloween. Photo by Craig Baxter.
Fanged skater Levi Hawken answered the door dressed in a
Dracula cape. "I'm just putting the blood on," he said. "I'll
be there in a minute."
Nek minnit he returned.
Levi Hawken, who has been in Dunedin for three years, became
a YouTube sensation when he starred in the "nek minnit" video
that went viral with more than one million views.
The event organiser began the annual Halloween skate jam at
Thomas Burns skate park in Dunedin three years ago.
Today's three-hour jam starts at 5pm.
"I encourage parents and kids to come along," he said. "Get
the family down and see some mean skating."
Free pizza would be provided for people to sink their fangs
into, he said.
Many of New Zealand's best skaters, including Mike Bancroft,
of Auckland, would be attending the event.
• Halloween family fun activities attracted several hundred
people, mostly primary school-age children, to the Dunedin
Gasworks Museum yesterday, organisers said.
Ann Barsby, a member of the museum's board, said that, thanks
to the success of the activities, the event was likely to
become an annual fixture.
