George Loo (82) astride a new Giant Trail Glide 2 bicycle he won yesterday through a More FM Dunedin promotion to find the person the station believes is the best Otago Daily Times delivery person in Dunedin.

Mr Loo has been involved in delivering the ODT for at least 30 years, according to his family, after he started helping his oldest son with his paper round in Dunedin.

Mr Loo, who has five children and 17 grandchildren, took over sole responsibility for delivering the papers 12 years ago, after most of his offspring had also been paper delivery people.

"George never misses a day - frequently rising at 4am to make sure he is on time," his daughter-in-law Leane Turnbull told More FM. "George can be seen before dawn with his really ancient bike riding around Fitzroy, Surrey and Richmond Sts in South Dunedin."

More FM Dunedin's Nicky Rennie said it was a "fabulous promotion" that "gave hundreds of grateful Dunedin ODT readers the chance to thank the delivery people who, let's be honest, have the toughest conditions in the country".

"The fact George is 82 and still delivering the ODT is testimony to the character of the people in Dunedin."
