The 28th annual Bikers Rights of New Zealand (Bronz) Christmas toy run was held on Saturday, attracting about 200 riders.

David "Croz" Crosbie, a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association who was attending the rally for the first time, said he enjoyed the event because it was "for a good cause".

His wife knitted for a hobby and had given toys away to "hundreds and hundreds of kids".

"It's a Christian thing. In these tough times some kids don't have toys," he said.

Bronz Otago president Ron McKay said the event had been a "great day", with plenty of toys going to the Dunedin North Lions Club.

The Lions would distribute them to a range of charities.

The rally was also an opportunity for the motorcycle club to hand over money raised during its Vincent Country Rally in February.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Zealand southern branch received $4000, and the Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust $2000.
