About 100 people attended the Northeast Valley Mad Hatter's Christmas Tea Party at North East Valley School, yesterday, which featured prizes for fancy dress hats, and Christmas Carols from Sounds Nor'Easterly choir.

Ms Adams said the party built on nine smaller tea parties held recently which aimed to encourage older people to get together and get involved in different community activities.

The tea party was also a way to gain feedback from people in the community "about what they would like to see in the valley".

Under the Department of Internal Affairs Northeast Valley community development project, the choir, a knitting club, street parties, car club and education council had been established, while walkways and bike tracks were being investigated.
