Arrowtown finished winter with seven low-pollution days.
This winter there were 38 high-pollution days, the lowest
total of the four Central Otago towns that the ORC monitors
for air quality. Image supplied.
Air pollution in Frankton does not appear to be a major
problem, preliminary results from a short-term sampling
programme have shown.
The ORC installed a high-volume sampler at Lakes District
Hospital in late July and tested air quality for a month at
the suggestion of the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
Spatial sampling was carried out to evaluate the distribution
of PM10 around the town.
Initial results showed the readings at the site were lower
than the National Environmental Standard but there were signs
the air quality was not so good in pockets about the village.
