Gore's depth of sporting talent has shone through in the
number of nominations received for the district's annual
community celebration, organisers say.
A total of 62 names will vie for the various awards at the
2009 Gore District Community Awards, with 21 entries received
for the junior sportsperson award alone.
Awards co-ordinator Susan Jones said the number of junior
nominations confirmed "the incredible depth of sporting
talent and achievement this district has".
The judges would have a hard task deciding the winner, she
said.
"The calibre of all nominees is outstanding and I hope as
many people as possible are able to make the presentation
evening to honour each and every one of them."
The awards function will be held on Saturday, October 31.
The guest speaker is broadcaster Keith Quinn. Tickets will go
on sale early next month at the Gore Visitor Information
Centre.
