Two new classrooms at Hawea Flat Primary School have opened
to accommodate an expanding school roll, which has more than
doubled in the past decade.
About 50 pupils from three composite classes, covering years
3, 4, and 5, have moved into the new classrooms,
administration officer Leanne Harling said.
The classrooms and new ablution facilities were a "welcome
addition" to ease the overcrowding, she said.
Hawea Flat Primary School has a current roll of 121 pupils,
which is projected to increase to 140 by the end of 2009.
The Ministry of Education allocated about $370,000 for the
building of the two classrooms.
