Kingston resident David Giles has been recognised for his
efforts to raise funds for the town's emergency services
building with an award from the Kingston Community Association.
Although limited in what he can do because of his health, Mr
Giles has made and sold 6200 jars of jam and pickle in the
past two years, donating a $1 from each jar to add $6200 the
emergency services fundraising cause.
Mr Giles was presented with his award before a crowd of about
200 people at the Kingstock music concert, held on Sunday
afternoon on the shores of Lake Wakatipu.
The concert was held to help with the fundraising effort.
When presenting Mr Giles with his award, Kingston chief fire
officer Tony Wilson said the sales of jams and pickles were
legendary in the town.
"David never lets any go past without buying a jar."
