Queenstown Lakes District Council project manager Russell
Engelke at the Lake Hayes Showground yesterday, which has been
enhanced in a $250,000 upgrade, "spot on budget", following
consultation with user groups.
Grass has been grown on almost 2000sq m of land, which used
to be covered with gravel, in front of the freshly-painted
pavilion, in a $13,000 contract with the Roading Company,
which began in March.
Since April 12, stage two of the upgrade has involved the
provision of 28 sealed car parking bays, including one for
disabled users, and a bus turning area.
There is a grassed overflow parking area southeast of the new
car park.
Permanent marquee anchor points were installed beside the
pavilion to double the capacity of the 50-seat building.
The entire facility is expected to re-open to the public on
June 10, six days later than predicted because of poor
weather, Mr Engelke said.
