About 4000 people attended the annual Lake County A and P
Show at the Lake Hayes Showgrounds on Saturday.
Committee member Mike Boyd said the section for new lifestyle
events included the "hugely successful" largest thistle
competition, with some prickly entries measuring more than 2m
tall.
Traditional pavilion exhibits and competitions featured were
fruit, preserves and produce, baking, art and photography.
"The Lakes County area produces fine produce meat and wool
from the farms and stations in the district.
These were wonderfully competed for in the classes of fleece
wool and meat breeds of sheep," he said.
A highlight was the lifestyle ride-on lawn-mower racing, with
one of the contestants nearly rolling the vehicle in the race
to the finish line.
The official show guest, comedian Te Radar, entered the race
much to the delight of the crowd, Mr Boyd said.
