Spring will arrive in blooming colourful style at
Lawrence's daffodil fields early next month.
Self-proclaimed "guardian of the daffodils" Kim "Dusty"
Murtagh said all three daffodil fields would be on display
for the first time for more than 50 years.
The Weatherstons attraction, on the outskirts of Lawrence,
will open on Saturday, September 5, with the annual Daffodil
Dayze Gala planned for Sunday, September 27.
The fields surround the ruins of the former Hart's Black
Horse Brewery and Ms Murtagh said the attraction was opened
every spring to inject some colour into the lives of everyone
after winter and to raise money so restoration of the site
could continue.
She and her team of showgirls dress up in costume to create
an atmosphere of days past.
The prospects of a colourful start to spring in the area were
looking good, she said.
"If you were impressed with the vista in previous years, you
should see it now."
A new walking track leads from the main field up to the top
field, coming down behind the brewery ruins before entering
the area commonly referred to as "Narnia", complete with its
own wardrobe, and back into the north field - a 1.5km circuit
of colour.
Ms Murtagh said the gala day would feature guided tours of
the fields, traditional food for sale and old-time music in
the background to re-create the atmosphere of similar events
more than 100 years ago.
