The patron of the Otago Jaguar Drivers Club 24 years ago,
when the first Best of British Charity Motoring Day in the
country was held in Otago, is in for a special tribute
tomorrow.
Now a resident at Mosgiel's Birchleigh Residential Care
Centre, Michael Throp will be able to watch a parade of the
participating British vehicles as they travel to Simpson
Park, Lawrence.
Organiser Steve McNulty said it was a way of acknowledging Mr
Throp's involvement in co-ordinating the inaugural running of
what was to become a popular event held "all over New
Zealand".
Any road-legal British vehicle - be it car, motorcycle, bus
or fire appliance - is eligible.
The vehicles will gather at Dunedin's Ice Stadium car park,
in Victoria Rd, St Kilda, between 9am and 10.30am.
In Lawrence, drivers' skills tests will be held.
Money raised will be donated to the Life Education Trust.
