The annual Bridge to Bar run, in which entrants run 5km from
the Tutoko Bridge to the Milford Pub on St Patrick's Day,
raised more than $2500 for the New Zealand Breast Cancer
Foundation.
Competitors from across Southland and Otago took part in
Wednesday's event, organised by tourism operator Real
Journeys.
Real Journeys Milford Sound operations manager Angus Small
said the run had become a popular event at Milford Sound
during the past 10 years.
"Businesses throughout Fiordland and Queenstown were
extremely generous in their support of this year's race,
donating a huge range of prizes and auction items," he said.
"We had a fantastic turnout with over 90 entries this year,
ranging from the seriously competitive to those preferring to
take a more leisurely pace.
"Some contestants opted to wear fancy dress, which was quite
a sight in a place as remote as Milford," Mr Small said.
The race was won by Brendon Roy, of Real Journeys, while
Alice Gironella, of Southern Discoveries, was the first
female to arrive at the pub.
