Rubber-necking will be welcomed - even encouraged - when the
Fire Service burns down a house near Milton tomorrow.
Fire Service training organiser Ivan Richards, of Dunedin,
said about 36 firefighters from around Otago and Southland
would practise their skills on two burning houses during a
large-scale firefighter training weekend, with the public
invited to the second fire.
Tasks would include setting two derelict houses on fire then
putting out the fires. The houses were donated by landowners
in the area.
He said a house near the Otago Corrections Facility at
Milburn would be burned down today but that event would not
be suitable for public attendance.
However, the public could watch firefighters tackle a fire
tomorrow in a derelict house at 56 Tokoiti Rd, east of
Milton, from about 9.30am.
Members of the public could watch the fire from a paddock
across the road, where information would be available about
what was happening and on general fire safety.
