Speed limits on Otago Peninsula roads will be the subject of
the next Dunedin City Council speed limit review, after
passionate arguments about road safety problems in the area
in May.
The next review is not due until 2013, but speed limit bylaw
hearings committee chairwoman Cr Kate Wilson said a report
had been ordered to see why the process was "so long and
costly", and if it could be done any earlier.
A hearing committee of Crs Wilson, Neil Collins and Teresa
Stevenson has been dealing with the issue, which, under
legislation, must go through a public consultation process
after publication and due time for a response.
The council this week signed off on the review, which led to
changes on 12 roads, with Townleys, Reservoir, and Boundary
Rs, Mt Grand and School Rds on the Taieri staying as they
were.
