This rower was rescued from Otago Harbour by Senior Constable Phil Beckwith, of Port Chalmers, who waded in waist-deep water to help him to shore.

Police were called to St Leonards shortly before 11am, following reports a rower was clinging to his upturned boat 30m from the shore.

"I yelled out to him and he said he needed some help," Snr Const Beckwith said.

He was able to wade out, grab the single scull and assist the man, who had tipped out after clipping a marker.

The man was uninjured.
