A crane has been brought in to begin replacing railway
bridge 217 at Burkes Bay.
KiwiRail public affairs manager Kevin Ramshaw said this week
the work was expected to take 12 weeks, with piling being
done when the line was not in use to reduce disruption to
train movements.
The line would be closed for a weekend when the final
changeover between the old and new bridges took place.
The new bridge, and another being replaced nearby, would have
provision for the $6.8 million cycleway being constructed
between Dunedin and Port Chalmers by the New Zealand
Transport Agency.
