Gay Ski Week brand bid

The owner of the company which organised Gay Ski Week in Queenstown before he placed it in liquidation last year, is thought to be bidding to buy the company back, despite creditors still being owed a total of nearly $60,000.

Former Gay Ski Week organiser Mike Sanford last year placed Livewire Group Ltd, established in 2009, into voluntary liquidation owing unsecured creditors $129,000 at the time.

Creditors who have filed with the liquidators to date are owed a total of $58,803.80.

Insolvency Management Limited liquidator Iain Nellies said Mr Sanford was now in the process of bidding to buy back the "intellectual property" of the company which includes the Gay Ski Week brand and website.

Mr Sanford lodged interest prior to Christmas and the liquidation company is working its way through the submitter interest.

The Otago Daily Times understands Gay Ski Week QT organiser Sally Whitewoods had last year placed a bid for the company, but has since started a separate company, Glam Enterprises Ltd, which will run this year's gay ski event.

Tickets went on sale yesterday as the website went live.

Ms Whitewood declined to comment on Mr Sanford's latest plans to resurrect the failed company.

Mr Nellies said although Livewire Group Ltd owed creditors $58,803, purchasing the company was "an open process for anyone to put in an expression of interest", which means Mr Sanford would not be ruled out because of his history.

"We will take a look at personal entities, any debt that may be owed to the company and deal with assets and intangibles."

Mr Sanford told the Otago Daily Times yesterday the idea of buying Gay Ski Week back had "been thrown around" and he was still thinking about it at this stage.
