About 350 people have arrived in the South Island's
premier ski resort, ready to put the "Queens" in Queenstown.
Gay Ski Week NZ 2008 organiser Mike Sanford said it was the
sixth annual Gay Ski Week NZ to have been held in the resort.
He expected numbers to have grown to about 600 by the end of
the week.
"That's not all here at once - it's like a revolving door -
it's continuous, with some people leaving as others arrive."
The programme for the week includes plenty of time on the
mountain, with plenty to do apres ski, including the
highlight of the event, Friday night's White Out party.
This year, the party would be held at Bezu, in the Sofitel
Hotel, a change of venue for the sellout event, Mr Sanford
said.
Some of those attending were back for their third or fourth
year, including Ray Hill, of Sydney, who said this was his
fourth Gay Ski Week NZ.
Mr Hill said the White Out party was the event everyone was
most looking forward to, with drag artist Kitty Glitter and
DJ Dan Murphy, both of Sydney, spinning back-to-back tracks.
Friday night's event was the participants' "big party", Mr
Hill said.
"There are lots of local boys and boys from around the area -
Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland - coming for
it."
Mr Sanford said there was an increased number of women at
this year's event, but it was always difficult to attract the
girls.
However, Mr Sanford said the women who did join in the fun
were great value and enjoyed themselves.
Gay Ski Week NZ officially started on Saturday.
It finishes on Sunday.
