The Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) is seeking public feedback on work proposed for an informal parking area in the Queenstown Gardens, near the Queenstown Bowling Club.

QLDC spokeswoman Julia Freeman said some minor improvements had been made to the car park by levelling it out, and now the council had produced a plan to complete the car park and improve the pedestrian connections within the gardens.

The proposed plan included formalising and sealing the existing informal car park with either two coats of chip seal ($35,000) or asphalt ($75,000); extending the avenue of Sorbus trees and softening the car park by introducing a garden to separate it from the road; creating a new lime chip footpath along the bottom of the bowling club wall to connect the rose garden and pond areas; and removing the car park by the toilets - with a loss of eight to 10 parking spaces - and replacing it with grass and limited service access.

"The work has not yet been formally considered by council or budgeted for," Ms Freeman said.

"Subject to public feedback, some works may be able to be progressed as funds allow over the next few years."

The work was consistent with the Queenstown Gardens Reserve Management Plan.

Any public comment on the proposed plans was welcomed and should be directed to juliaf@qldc.govt.nz by April 17.
