Queenstown musician Mark Wilson was surprised by the extreme makeover of his home, but not by Queenstown's generous spirit.

Mr Wilson had been staying with his parents in Cromwell since he had a seizure and subsequent surgery to remove a brain tumour in February.

He was astonished when he was taken back to his Queenstown flat last month.

Thanks to the generosity of local people and businesses "in tough times", his flat now features a new bathroom, kitchen, lounge, bedroom and laundry, and new furnishings.

The renovation was organised by Queenstown Carpet Care owner Peter McInally after Mr Wilson's father asked for some second-hand carpet for his son's flat.
