Water clear after spill

A sewage spill at Kelvin Heights on Sunday had no impact on the area's water supply and was quickly dispersed, Queenstown Lakes District Council water services manager Gary McGraw said.

A blockage in a sewerage main caused a manhole to overflow, sending about 1000 litres of wastewater into the lake, below Peninsula Rd about 12.30pm.

The spill was quickly dispersed on Sunday, the area sanitised and water samples taken.

The samples showed there was no contamination, but a second set of tests was conducted yesterday as a precaution.
