Wakatipu residents are urged to dust off their pink
frocks and watch a couple of great movies to show their support
for breast cancer awareness next month.
Julie Hughes, of Arrow Events, and Dorothy Browns manager,
Samantha Relph, have teamed up to raise awareness with a
special screening of the family-oriented animated movie Up,
and for the adults, a screening of The September Issue, the
documentary about hard-nosed American Vogue editor Anna
Wintour.
Mrs Hughes said it would be more than just watching a movie.
The theme of the evening, on Friday 9 October, would be a
"Pink Party".
"And where better to hold that than at Dorothy Browns," Mrs
Hughes said.
There had already been a lot of interest and support.
Waitere Creek had come on board by supplying a wine, its
Harriet Rose, for the occasion; the sales of which would go
directly to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
Mrs Hughes encouraged everyone to come to one of the movies
to show their support.
"Breast cancer affects everyone in the community . . . men
can get it too, and they are also affected when their loved
ones get it," she said.
Every child who came to the screening of Up would receive a
balloon, Mrs Hughes said.
"It [breast cancer] is such a serious issue, but it is good
to have family involvement," she said.
"It will be during the school holidays, and I think it will
be a fun way to raise some money and some awareness at the
same time.
"I hope we get some men along in some pink too."
Donations to the Breast Cancer Appeal can be made at Dorothy
Browns.
Bookings for either movie can be made by telephoning 442
1964.
