The Cardinal Sin team of Ant Carter and Craig Burborough, who travelled New Zealand carrying a gnome as their mascot before auctioning it online, been named the winners of the 2009 Novotel $10 Queenstown Challenge to Cure Kids.

The race ended in Queenstown on Friday and raised more than $350,000 for research into children's life-threatening illnesses.

This year, 29 teams raced from Auckland to the resort with just $10 in their pocket, completing a series of challenges along the way to decide the overall final placings.

The first team to arrive in Queenstown was Dave Watson and Louise Patrick, of The Briscoe Muffin Stuffers, at 2.44pm.

Their final challenge was to run through a bouncy castle-style obstacle course and they, along with many of the other finishers, earned themselves bonus points by diving, fully clad, into the freezing waters of Lake Wakatipu.

The Blonde and the Brunette team of Morgan Emery and Simone Withell arrived second at 2.55pm, followed by Team Dash, represented by Carol Lindley and Tony Bishop, at 3.19pm.

The Champion Fundraising Trophy was won by Tony Gorton and Patrick Flavall, of the Turnstone Titans, who raised $25,350.

The Rotary team of Beryl and Colin Robinson raised $20,127 and Ben and Samantha Brown, of the Bright Sparks, $18,124.
