A "fair percentage" of the 200 visitors who had their
first look at the new Lakes Leisure community gym signed up for
membership during the open day on Saturday.
Fitness enthusiasts and the simply curious turned out to try
the brand new weights and cardio equipment free of charge, as
well as meet the team at Alpine Health and Fitness.
One of the new members was a 73-old-year old Queenstown man
who chose the facility because it was near home and it had
the equipment he needed.
Open day visitor Mary Todd said she had become a member weeks
earlier.
"It's awesome; fantastic. I like it because it's in Frankton
and I'm a Frankton resident and it combines with my swim
classes."
Visitors Jackie and Bruce Welch, of Ashburton, said they were
interested in Alpine Health and Fitness because their own
community had been talking about centralising its sports
facilities for 30 years.
"It's amazing. Every city or town should have a facility like
this," Mrs Welch said.
Mr Welch said the Queenstown Events Centre's "multipurpose"
nature was impressive.
Health and fitness manager Richie Heap said the open day was
a success and visitors complimented staff on the gym's value
for money, as swimming in Alpine Aqualand was included.
Other feedback favoured the gym's lofty views out to the
cricket oval or pools, its air-conditioning, ease of car
parking and central Frankton location.
