If anyone knows how to put the art in party, it's Michael Hill.

While crowd numbers may have been down on previous years at the Michael Hill New Zealand Open, the crowd numbers at one particular hole on the championship course remained steady throughout the week.

The Party Hole at the 15th green saw hundreds of spectators at any one time, although it appeared those actually watching the golf were in the minority.

This was the second year the Party Hole had been established, complete with picnic tables, chairs and umbrellas, a grandstand, a food stall and Good Group Ltd's travelling bar keeping punters hydrated and entertained with its sound system.

Good Group events manager Chris Skyner said there had been more people at the Party Hole this year, with some turning up at 10am and staying all day.

While it was mostly locals at the hospitality area over the weekend, on the first two days many tourists stopped by for refreshment.

As of yesterday afternoon, the pallet of beer which went to any golfer who managed to shoot a hole in one at the par 4 15th hole was unclaimed.

Richard Johnson, a Welshman based in Arkansas, United States, managed to do it last year, with 1500 bottles of Heineken delivered to his door as his reward.

Meanwhile, crowds were also steady on Main St over the weekend, with the most popular area the Heineken travelling bar.

It was the second year the impressive bar had been parked at The Hills and, as the afternoon wore on, the crowds began to swell, with golfers, volunteers and the public celebrating the end of another successful event, hoping to do it all again in 2011.
