Inquest adjourned again

An inquest into the death of Fenton William Tisdall, who died near Cromwell on December 31, 2005, was postponed in Queenstown this week at the request of the family.

His inquest was scheduled for mid-2006, but the Tisdall family was not satisfied with the police investigation.

It hired a Dunedin private investigator and a lawyer and sought a ministerial review.

Detective Sergeant Grahme Bartlett, of Queenstown, was appointed to conduct the review.

The inquest was later set for last June, but began in October before coroner Alan Macalister.

However, Mr Macalister adjourned it to enable forensic pathologist Dr Martin Sage, of Christchurch, to review evidence from Dunedin psychotherapist Peter Frost.

Mr Frost consulted for the Tisdalls, but did not attend the hearing.

During the inquest Dr Sage criticised Mr Frost's conclusions and sought clarification of his credentials as an expert witness.

Senior Constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said this week the family, through its lawyer, had approached Mr Macalister and asked for a further adjournment.

"I would stress police have been ready to proceed.

"The police have not asked for the adjournment."

A "provisional" date of March 4 has been set for the inquest to resume.
