A Queenstown artist and art consultant has contributed
100 abstract paintings valued at $10,000 to the Queenstown Art
Society's Mad March Art Sale.
Ivan Clarke Gallery consultant Helga Coolman, a former
Kentucky-residing German who has lived in Queenstown for 15
years, said she would also offer her expertise to Mad March
patrons by appointment, in exchange for a donation to the
society.
"The art society works real hard and they need a shot in the
arm," Mrs Coolman said.
The art sale was "a bargain centre.
"Many talented artists exhibit and sell their work at a
rock-bottom price and that's a service to the community".
Mrs Coolman, who describes award-winning Athol artist Mags
Meechang as her mentor, said her own art works were "an
introduction for people who don't like abstracts".
The non-profit society is calling for artists who want to
sell their works, and also owners who want to refresh their
walls, to bring their items to the Cloakroom Gallery this
Sunday between 10am and 2pm.
Everything from abstracts to realism, landscapes to
traditional and contemporary styles would be accepted.
The value is set by the artist or owner and prices will range
from $20 to $2000.
The society takes a 15% slice from each sale, with proceeds
going towards gallery running costs.
