More than 600 pieces by 45 Wakatipu artists have been
entered in the Queenstown Art Society's Mad March Art Sale,
which opens on Friday.
Artists and art owners who wanted to sell their works dropped
off a wide range of abstract, realist, expressionist,
landscape, traditional and contemporary pieces at the
Cloakroom Gallery last Sunday.
Established participating artists include Spike Wademan, Mags
Meechang and Brian Millard, while relative newcomers to the
art sale include Carl van den Boom and Claire Waddick.
Gallery manager and artist Sue Wademan said about 80% of
artists and owners who entered the 2009 sale sold at least
one work.
"We've got a huge variety of art for everybody's taste and
favourite colours, from black and white to bright
multicolours.
"This exhibition is more about people finding pieces they
love and want to take home and the price is right."
The value is set by the artist or owner.
Prices will range from $5 to $3000.
The society takes 15% from each sale and proceeds go towards
gallery running costs and show promotion.
• The Queenstown Art Society Mad March Art Sale, at the
