Police investigating an assault on a 15-year-old girl in
Timaru last night say they are treating the incident as
serious, even though she was unhurt.
The girl was assaulted by two men behind a substation on the
corner of Selwyn and Grassmere streets some time between 11pm
and 1am, said Detective Sergeant Dylan Murray of the Timaru
CIB.
"She doesn't have any life-threatening injuries...[but] there
were circumstances surrounding the assault that make it
serious."
The girl was taken to hospital and was now safe at home with
family, he said.
The investigation was in its early stages and police did not
yet have firm leads.
Police were knocking on doors in the area and a forensic
photographer was at the site.
