Waihola's new school and community library, which has
been more three years in the making, will be officially
opened on April 19.
The multi-purpose building sited on the school grounds will
become a base for not only Waihola District School pupils but
also for other members of the community.
An opening ceremony will be held from 2.30pm to 4pm.
Principal Sara Whitaker said the board was excited by the
opportunities the large new facility would afford the school
and wider community.
The large hall will be used for indoor play and sports dur
ing the winter months, while the large deck boasts lake
views.
It could also be used as an outdoor classroom.
A new school/community library is being developed by the
school, Clutha District Council and Waihola community.
‘‘Future visions for the build ing include an information
technology suite, staging and lighting facilities and... a
centre for learning for people of all ages, both in and
outside of school hours.''
School pupils will provide light entertainment at the opening
ceremony.
