Man sought after Waitati burglary

Police have arrested one person and are seeking another after a burglary at the Blueskin General Store, at Waitati, north of Dunedin.

Detective Sergeant Rob Hanna said someone smashed their way into the store using sledgehammers either on Thursday night or yesterday morning.

Large quantities of cigarettes and tobacco were taken.

An 18-year-old man was arrested yesterday and will appear in the Dunedin District Court today on a burglary charge.

Police are seeking information about the second man, described only as a male Caucasian, probably in his late teens or early 20s.

Anyone who had been offered cheap cigarettes or tobacco, or who had any other information about the incident, should call Dunedin police on (03) 471-4800.
