Wanaka Community Board chairman Lyal Cocks yesterday paid
tribute to respected former Queenstown Lakes deputy mayor and
Wanaka board chairman Bill King, who died yesterday following
a long illness.
"I have some sad news.
"Bill King passed away this morning . . .
"He was a major contributor to our community.
"He had been very unwell," Cr Cocks said.
Cr Cocks made his remarks at the opening of the board's
monthly meeting, which was attended by the full board, Mayor
Clive Geddes, and the district's new chief executive, Debra
Lawson.
Mr King's voluntary work included working as the welfare
officer for Wanaka members of the Returned and Services
Association.
An obituary will follow.
