Former leading Dunedin and New Zealand businessman Ted Friedlander died last Friday aged 95.

Mr Friedlander OBE had been a managing director and chairman of Hallenstein Glasson Holdings Ltd.

When inducted into the national Business Hall of Fame in 1995, he was the only person so honoured without a knighthood.

A keen supporter of Dunedin, in 1966 Mr Friedlander persuaded the city to take over the running of Olveston stately home.

He was the fourth generation of his family to work for Hallensteins and gave his time to Otago cultural and charitable interests.
