Byers not at meeting

Blue Chip's founder Mark Byers is to be reported to the "appropriate authorities'' after he failed to show at yesterday's meeting of about 300 angry creditors in Auckland.

Liquidator Jeff Meltzer said it was an offence under the Companies Act for Mr Byers not to attend the meeting and he would be reporting Mr Byers' absence to the appropriate authorities.

Yesterday's meeting concerned three companies that were part of Blue Chip - Bribanc Property Group Ltd, ART Apartments and Auckland Residents Tenancies.

Two directors of the failed company did attend but refused to answer questions from creditors saying their refusal was on legal advice.

Mr Meltzer said creditors badly affected by the collapse would have their homes protected in the short term.

The meeting is to continue into the afternoon.
