Dunedin women’s designer clothing retailer Diane McKenzie is opening a second store in the city.

Miss McKenzie, who owns Paint the Town Red in St Andrew St, will open Kenzie on George — between Jonathan’s Photo Warehouse and Farmers in George St — on March 1. The shop had previously been vacant for about two years, she said.

She was "taking up an opportunity" with the recent closure of H and J Smith’s Dunedin store and had picked up quite a few clothing labels, she said.

Miss McKenzie opened Paint the Town Red, which stocked plus-sized clothing, in 2011. In March last year, she closed a store in Gore after seven years of trading.

Her new venture would cater for sizes 10 to 18 and the store would employ a manager, deputy and several casual staff.

She had "lots of plans" for the fit-out and while "a little bit under pressure" at the moment, it was also very exciting.

"I can’t wait for our stock to start rolling in," she said.
