The final judging of the New Zealand Ewe Hogget Competition has been completed and the winner will be announced at a function in Cromwell on Friday.
Southern farmers dominate the breed section winners, which were: Coopworth, Morton Mains Farm, Wyndham; Romney, S. Carruthers and P. Hunt, Wanaka; Crossbred, R. Minehan, Fairlie; Composite, S. Harrison, Balclutha; Fine Wools, Buscot Station, Omarama and Perendale, M. McElrea, Tapanui.
Event convener George Fletcher said the sheep from all finalists were of a high standard and supported with top production figures, but drought and changing land use meant entries were down on previous years.
The overall winner receives a prize package worth $10,000 with all six breed winners receiving prizes.
The prizegiving dinner will be held on Friday at the Golden Gate Lodge in Cromwell at 5pm.
