Local success at NI champs

Canterbury sheep dog triallists have enjoyed success at this year's North Island Championships, held near Taumaranui.

Stuart Millar and Jim, of the Glenroy Collie Club, won the short head and yard event with a total score of 191.5.

Andy Clark and Lady, of the Tai Tapu Collie Dog Club were placed third in what was a close-run competition.

With total points of 191, only half a point separated the pair from the winners.

Eoin Herbert and Storm, of the Tapawera Dog Trial Club, scored a total of 191.25 to be placed second.

In the long head event, Mr Millar and Rose were placed fifth.

It was won by Murray Child and Dice, of the Maungakaramea Sheep Dog Trial Club, Northland.

Dan Murphy and Quest, of the Whangamomona Dog Trial Club, in Taranaki, won the zigzag hunt and he also won the straight hunt with Rebel.

The South Island and New Zealand Championships are on this week at Waihi Station, near Geraldine.
