The Pride of Milford is all dressed up with somewhere to go.

Southern Discoveries' tourist boat has been in Dunedin for nine weeks undergoing extensive refurbishment at a cost of more than $500,000.

The 34m catamaran had been owned by Southern Discoveries for 16 years and was its flagship vessel, carrying 400 people, chief executive Tim Hunter said.

It had received a new interior thanks to a wide array of contractors in Dunedin and was now headed home.

Major vessel maintenance was always scheduled over winter, when fewer cruises were run, so it caused less disruption, Mr Hunter said.

Pride of Milford starts its summer timetable on September 28.
