Work has started on Port Otago’s new car park opposite its head office in Beach St, Port Chalmers.

Parts of the port’s former fire store building were cleared to make way for the 80 new car parks aimed at alleviating parking congestion around the port.

A resource consent was lodged with the Dunedin City Council for the construction and associated earthworks in August.

The new site will have facilities for electric vehicle charging.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
