A man who allegedly got out of his car and punched a passing cyclist in central Dunedin this morning remains at large.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called at 10.14am after a member of the public reported the man had hit a cyclist in London St, near George St.

Police understood the man got out of his vehicle and punched the rider, the spokeswoman said.

Officers continued to make inquiries regarding the incident, which was being treated as a breach of the peace.

It appeared the cyclist was uninjured and ambulance was not requested.

The spokeswoman would not release any information regarding the make or model of the car.
